What Cannot Go in a Skip Bin?

Skip bins are loaded, lifted and transported with general waste. The items on the prohibited list can be a risk to people, vehicles or the environment when mixed in with everyday rubbish.

Asbestos must never go in a skip bin. Disturbing it can release fibres that are dangerous to breathe. If you suspect asbestos in an older home, stop work and get advice from a licensed professional before going any further.

Liquids and chemicals can leak, spill or react with other waste. Tins of paint, garden chemicals, pool chemicals, solvents and motor oil all need to stay out of the bin.

Batteries can leak or short circuit when crushed with other waste, which creates a fire risk. Keep all batteries out, including car batteries and small household ones.

Fluorescent tubes and globes break easily and contain materials that should not be mixed with general waste.

Tyres are not accepted in any bin.
